Seoul, Korea, Dec 11, 2003 - LG Electronics (LGE) captured leadership in the global CDMA phone market in the 3rd quarter this year.

For the first time, the electronics firm rose to the top spot in the global CDMA mobile phone market in the 3rd quarter this year, according to a survey conducted by US market research agency Strategy Analytics (SA).

According to the SA survey data, LGE (CEO and Vice Chairman S.S.Kim / www.lge.com supplied a total of 6 million mobile phones to the CDMA global market, posting 23.0% market share. It outperformed Samsung Electronics and Motorola, which supplied 5.1 million units each to capture 19.6% market share.

The figure posted by LGE in the 3rd quarter represents a 1.7 million increase compared to the 2nd quarter and a 62% growth compared to the same period last year.

The camera-phones that LGE launched on the US market became wildly popular on the global market. LGE likewise secured stable sales networks in CDMA markets such as China, India, and Brazil. As such, market analysts noted that the explosive mobile phone sales of LGE in overseas markets enabled the firm to capture the top spot.

During the third quarter, LGE started to supply cell phones actively to major European GSM operators such as Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile and to US¡?s largest GSM operator, Cingular; thus reaping tremendous success in the GSM business as well. This enabled the electronics giant to supply 1.6 million mobile phones to the global GSM market and rise to the 7th place, the first of its kind. This supply figure represents a 60% increase compared to the previous quarter.
